On the first day we were put into groups and i was put with another singer called Rosella and a guitarist called Cailean. We were told to come up with a blues song and we were shown a few items for inspiration including glasses, a ball, a book. We then went into booths.
As i was the songwriter, to get started, i wrote down all the names of objects and wrote words which related to each of them for example glasses-broken-clear-dirty. Cailean then quickly came up with a chord structure and we spoke about what the song could be about and decided it would be about a drunk cowboy making his way to a duo. We then started to make up a story and the lyrics soon started to flow as i started writing. It was a fun exercise with the other group members. We then added dynamics to make the song more interesting and even had a speaking part that Cailean did.
I really like working with Rosella and Cailean and i have some of the same taste in music with each of them. I also like Cailean's unique chord progressions and riffs and he doesn't mind when i make input or ask to change certain parts.
To make a song i find repetition a good way of getting the sound flowing and then adding bits in to make it better.
Each group went through the long process of getting their song recorded in the studio and people from other groups got to join in if extra instruments needing added. When it was our turn to record it went very smoothly and then other sounds, such as a shaker and someones foot steps on a board, were added which completed the song. I was pleased with the outcome and we got good feedback from other classmates. We have also been told that we will be making music videos for all of the songs we have recorded which will mean miming which may be a lot of fun.

How can you blame me - Lyrics
Stumblin' down the road,
From Mexico to Cali
Drunk from all the liquor,
And my horse ran off and left me
How can you blame me?
How can you blame me?
How can you blame me?
I guess i was thirsty
Got a broken pair of glasses,
In the bottom of my pocket
Blind and seeing stars,
I wish i never left the bar
4, 3, 2, 1
Pull the trigger of my gun
4, 3, 2, 1
In the end i won
Stingy eyes,
But i seen the sign,
My horse knew best
I should've turned left
How can you blame me?
How can you blame me?
How can you blame me?
I guess i was thirsty
Writing our own song
We have started writing our own songs in class which i am thoroughly enjoying. It took a while to get a melody on the guitar which fitted well with the way the song is sung but now we have harmonies, dynamics and a piano part played by another classmate.
Fragile - Lyrics
Why do i get misunderstood?
If you knew how i felt,
Don't think you would.
Isolate myself from the world,
Like a leaf leaving it's home,
Their on their own.
I don't see no one, I don't see nothing,
I just feel the pain underneath my skin,
Pushed off to the side, put up on a shelf,
Left to sit in here, alone by myself.
My fragile heart, wearing thin,
Could i just pin it?
Don't think i'd feel a thing.
Are you feeling the same way too?
Was all a mistake, already too late.
I don't see no one, I don't see nothing,
I just feel the pain underneath my skin,
Pushed off to the side, put up on a shelf,
Left to sit in here, alone by myself.

headline song
We were given the task to write a song individually, using a headline out of a newspaper for inspiration or around a current affair.
I chose to write a song around an article i had read on Russel Brand, who was talking about his his battle with addiction with in depth descriptions and how he had lost friends that went through the same as himself. It was called Russel Brand on heroin, abstinence and addiction from an online magazine called The Spectator. I had been watching a lot of YouTube clips of Russel on this topic and i thought he had some valid points and it was interesting hearing what an actual user had to say.
I found writing this song harder than usual as it wasn't personnel and it was new to me.
I still wanted the song to have a specific sound which allowed me to enjoy the song rather than write a song that felt distant from me as it wasn't personnel.
I had to try really hard to paint pictures in my head, imagining having somebody else's mind set. There was a piano part which completed the haunting sound i wanted to give off but it wasn't recorded.
Abstinence of the mind - Lyrics
Giving up my pleasures,
For a life that's much better,
I can't seem to carry on,
In this world of lies and wrong.
Controlling these demands,
With abstinence of the mind,
I'm a criminal in my own house,
Oh i'm down an out.
Following a road that has no end,
Just gonna drive back around the bend,
Disconnected from my head.
Reminiscing of what i had before,
Cause' i don't want this anymore,
I'm just a memory at my door.
I live with a price to pay,
Haunting me night and day,
Of lying on the bathroom floor,
Drunk on black liqueur.
Controlling these demands,
With abstinence of the mind,
I resent who i once was,
A fool at my own loss.
Following a road that has no end,
Just gonna drive back around the bend,
Disconnected from my head.
Reminiscing of what i had before,
Cause' i don't want this anymore,
I'm just a memory at my door.

motown song
Stop - Lyrics
I've been burning, for so long
Trapped in the chambers, of your heart.
You've got me hurting, from your love
I'm on fire, I'm on fire...
Stop! What you doing to me?
I said stop and leave me be
Stop! What you doing to me?
I said stop, I want to be free.
I'm so tired, and so sad
How could you treat me, so bad?
I'm too tired, I've had enough
So why won't you just....
Stop! What you doing to me?
I said stop and leave me be
Stop! What you doing to me?
I said stop, I want to be free.
I've been burning, for so long
Trapped in the chambers, of your heart.
You've got me hurting, from your love
I'm on fire, I'm on fire...
Stop! What you doing to me?
I said stop and leave me be
Stop! What you doing to me?
I said stop, I want to be free.
I'm so tired, and so sad
How could you treat me, so bad?
I'm too tired, I've had enough
So why won't you just....
Stop! What you doing to me?
I said stop and leave me be
Stop! What you doing to me?
I said stop, I want to be free.

Go, take what you need
I've made enough, enough people grieve.
So, take what you see
And you can be free,
Free without me.
Go, be on your way,
You don't have to stay, in this misery.
We'll be fine on our own, make it alone
Take it day by day.
Running from what we had
I know now, that we'd never last.
Think of me when your sad
And remember what we had.
Go, take what you need
I've made enough, enough people grieve.
So, take what you see
And you can be free,
Free without me.
I've made enough, enough people grieve.
So, take what you see
